Discharge - Warning: Her Majesty's Government Can Seriously Damage Your Health

Our last taste of 1983 features something I personally found to be quite controversial back in the day. That is, of course, they change in singing style of Cal Morris. I distinctly remember telling friends I hate Discharge's new singer. Oh well, with age comes toleration I guess. Still a great EP no matter how Cal busts it out.

Wretched - In Nome Del Loro Potere Tutto E Stato Fatto 7"

Every now and again I stumble across something that I just can't believe has never been posted on here yet. Such was the case when I went scouring through my collection looking for 1983 releases. Italian hardcore insanity!!

Misfits - Earth A.D./Wolf's Blood

1983 also saw the end of the legendary Misfits. As their farewell (sort of) we got this blast of evil.

Butthole Surfers - Self-Titled

So, quite some time ago I got an email from someone at Alternative Tentacles asking me to not post releases still available for sale on AT. And I've done my best to honor that. Until today that is. Because how can I not include the debut EP from one of my absolute favorite bands of all time. So, if I'm asked to remove it I will, so get it while you can.

No Trend - Teen Love 7"

We got a couple noisy gems book ending this weekend, starting with these D.C. boys. I always forget how much I love these guys. Three great tracks.

The Stains - Self-Titled

The beauty of this LP is the fact that it is far from beautiful. Scuzzy LA hardcore at its finest.

Mau Mau's - Live At The Marples

Ok, so the valuable source Punky Gibbon says this was actually released in 1984. I can neither confirm nor deny this, but I do know the actual show happened in September of 1983, so we're rolling with it. As well we should. This is a fantastic live LP from a band that released a few classic seven inchers in the early 80's. And almost all of those tracks can be found in live form here. And some more than once. Sounds like it was a helluva night!

Disorder - Mental Disorder 7"

1983 brought this 7" of complete insanity to our ears. Bristol madmen Disorder decided to not go the Oi route and blasted some great hardcore instead.

Chronic Sick - The Cutest Band In Hardcore 7"

Back to the states for a little '83 scumbag punk rock. These Jersey Shore boys sang about the important stuff: public suicides, trendies and of course, prison sex. Very immature, in a good way.

Tampere SS - Sotaa 7"

We complete our Nordic bookends weekend with Finland's Tampere S.S. Really cool hardcore. Unfortunately they weren't around for very long and don't have too much of a recorded history.

Slam - Demo 1983

Slam were Swedish skate gods from the early 80's. This demo was I believe the first introduction of their recorded sound. Great stuff.

Execute - Self-Titled 7"

What else happened in '83? The Execute started making our eardrums bleed. Their debut 7" was released and the world suddenly became a better place.

Conflict - Last Hour

Not to be confused with the anarcho gods from the U.K., this Conflict was a fantastic hardcore band from Tucson, AZ. If you haven't heard these guys, and gal, you need this! Included is a great cover of 'American Woman'. I mean, not as good as the the Buttholes cover version, but whattryagonnado? Great band, great album

1983 Revisited - Part 1

So, by and large I try to only post releases once, unless they're reposts or for some other silly reason. Well this month I'll still do that, however there are SO DAMNED MANY classics from 1983 that need to be posted this month! That's what I'll be doing on Saturdays. I'm sure most of you will already have these in your collections in one form or another, but hopefully you'll be inspired to give 'em another listen. Because damn these deserve it!

V/A - The Blasting Concept

As we enter March we find our first 'guest theme'. Our old pal Rocko thought this a good idea and dammit I agree with him! The theme: 1983. Damn there were some great releases that year! I had thought it a decent idea to start with, take a year and focus on it, but when I started digging, holy shit Rocko is right! What a great year for hardcore! Thanks Rocko!

We begin with this great sampler from SST which somehow has never made an appearance on this blog. This comp gives you a great taste of the wide range of stuff SST was putting out in the early 80's.
